Bilingual Musical Storytelling
Pepito & The Trash Cans
A Bilingual Musical Story that Sparks Imagination and Celebrates Culture
Perfect for family programs and summer reading events, Pepito & The Trash Cans is a bilingual musical storytelling performance that brings books and creativity to life! Set in Bolivia, this heartwarming tale follows Pepito, a boy who dreams of making music but has no instruments. With the help of his siblings, he discovers how to turn everyday objects—like bottles and cans—into music-making treasures.
Combining live music, Spanish and English narration, and a rich sense of imagination, this performance promotes:
Early literacy and language learning through context-driven Spanish vocabulary
Cultural pride and appreciation that uplifts Hispanic voices and invites cross-cultural understanding
Environmental awareness through creative reuse of materials
Social-emotional learning as children see Pepito overcome hardship with perseverance and teamwork
Inspiration to read, create, and explore
Children and families leave the performance inspired to make their own instruments, tell their own stories, and see the library as a place of imagination, learning, and community.
